Transportation scholarships can support different degrees and different applicant groups. An engineering, planning, finance or logistics student may fit a career-based program, while another award may depend on a parent’s work history rather than the student’s major.
Start with the actual eligibility condition. Do not label every transportation-sponsored award as available to every transportation student.

Local and national dates are different
WTS Foundation scholarships start at the chapter level; chapter winners are nominated nationally. Local chapters can add conditions, interviews or higher GPA requirements. A national December opening is not permission to ignore an earlier local application. WTS process.
Colorado’s 2026–27 cycle is open through October 15, 2026, while Indianapolis lists January 1, 2027. These are different chapter calendars, not conflicting universal deadlines. Check the chapter relevant to you. Colorado · Indianapolis.
Do not submit through an unrelated chapter simply because its deadline is later. Ask about geographic, institution, identity and degree conditions before preparing the application.
Connect the field to your actual career goal
WTS evaluates transportation goals, academic record and relevant activities or skills. Its awards include undergraduate, graduate, leadership, technical-college and high-school routes. Read the named award rather than assuming one criterion covers every program. WTS categories.
A hypothetical planning applicant might explain a real accessibility question, method and learning. An engineering student could discuss a course design tradeoff. A finance student should connect their goals to transportation rather than merely repeat the major name.
Identify your own contribution and distinguish proposed work from completed results. Do not invent ridership, safety, cost or environmental outcomes.
Worker-family eligibility is a separate category
ARTBA’s memorial award is for children of qualifying workers across specified transportation-construction sectors, including roads, rail, transit, ports, airports and utilities. Eligible postsecondary education can include four-year, two-year, vocational/technical and qualifying graduate study. ARTBA criteria.
It is not simply an award for choosing a transportation major. Read documentation and family-eligibility requirements sensitively and accurately; do not infer qualification from a general family connection to construction.
Leadership programs are not automatically scholarships
ITE’s 2027 LeadershipITE application was due September 15, 2026 and lists a $3,500 tuition charge. A professional-development application is not a tuition scholarship merely because funding or sponsorship may be discussed. ITE program terms.
Keep degree scholarships, employer sponsorship, conference grants and paid leadership programs in different budget rows.
Next step
Identify degree/career or worker-family eligibility, verify the appropriate chapter/current cycle, and prepare truthful materials. Record payment recipient, eligible costs and funded term; keep pending awards separate from confirmed funds.
