In short

Speech-language-pathology funding depends on where you are in the education pathway. A CSD sophomore, an undergraduate senior entering graduate school, and a current graduate student should not assume they share the same scholarship application.

Start with your degree, expected graduation, full-time/part-time status, and national association membership. Then compare the individual program’s rules before choosing materials or a deadline.

National NSSLHA’s graduate scholarships are administered through ASHFoundation; they are not a separate duplicate award application with identical eligibility. NSSLHA graduate route.

National membership is different from chapter participation

NSSLHA explicitly distinguishes national membership from local chapter membership for its undergraduate awards. Prior scholarship recipients are not eligible under the published undergraduate rules. Its current page lists the September 1, 2026 opening, December 31 deadline, and January 2027 recognition. Current undergraduate process.

An older PDF still displays September–December 2025 dates. Use the current dated program page and official application rather than carrying the old calendar forward. Historical PDF.

Graduate funding needs the right program and materials

ASHFoundation requires full-time study for the academic year and qualifying program accreditation for clinical audiology and SLP master’s programs. It accepts research and clinical doctoral applicants, with distinct accreditation treatment. Applicants cannot have received a previous ASHFoundation scholarship. Graduate eligibility.

Its materials include transcripts, an acceptance/good-standing document, a goals letter, an essay, and three confidential recommendations. Reference composition varies for undergraduate, graduate, and returning workforce applicants. Read your own category rather than assuming any three letters satisfy it. Application materials.

The same page includes category-specific awards, including international-student support. Do not assume every named category requires U.S. citizenship or that every graduate student belongs in each category.

Do not confuse hearing-loss funding with a professional-degree award

Sertoma has two different scholarship programs. Its Hard of Hearing or Deaf scholarship is for eligible bachelor’s students in any discipline; its Communicative Disorders award is for qualifying graduate SLP/audiology study. This guide lists the latter, not a general award requiring hearing loss. Sertoma program distinctions.

The current graduate listing says funds apply to fall 2027, spring 2028, or summer 2028, and students graduating before the end of August 2027 are ineligible. A school-year label alone does not settle that timing. Sertoma funded period.

Prepare evidence without identifying clients

Choose a learning, research, service, or leadership example relevant to the prompt. Explain your role and what the evidence supports. Do not claim independent clinical work from a supervised placement or invent patient outcomes.

Protect client and research-participant information. A hypothetical applicant can explain a question about access or communication support without identifying a person or sharing private records. Ask a supervisor when uncertain.

Next step

Confirm your stage and membership, choose the actual application route, and ask recommenders early. Record eligible costs, payment timing, and the funded enrollment period; keep pending awards separate from confirmed money.
