Soroptimist: dependents are not limited to children

The official rules include dependents such as a spouse, partner, sibling or parent. Applicants must live in an eligible country or territory, must not hold or pursue a graduate degree, and must not have previously received this award. Certain Soroptimist relationships also exclude eligibility. Read the full rules. The preparation page says a reference must be submitted before the applicant can submit, so request it early. Tell your own story; AI-generated experiences are not appropriate application evidence.
ASPSF: check its definition of single parent

Source: Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund
Eligibility depends on marital status, custody and living arrangement, not just describing yourself as a single parent. The current page also requires at least three credit hours, a 2.0 GPA, no existing bachelor’s degree, and household income within its stated limit. Some Arkansas counties use separate local programs; verify your county through the official page.
Its five requested document categories are marital-status evidence, income evidence, FAFSA Submission Summary, transcript and class schedule. Use the current portal during the announced window. A functioning “Apply Now” link does not override the explicit fall-closure notice.
Patsy Mink: higher credential, not a second equivalent degree

Source: Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Support Awards
The 2026–27 criteria require a woman aged at least 17, minor children, qualifying low income, and full-time enrollment at a U.S. accredited nonprofit program. The credential must be more advanced than one already completed, with completion on or after April 1, 2027. Awards may support school or living expenses. The provider’s criteria page does not establish a current application deadline; confirm it directly rather than treating the linked form as proof of availability.
A practical screening example
A fictional father attending a qualifying Arkansas associate program should investigate ASPSF’s complete rules; the women-specific awards are not his route. A mother beginning a second bachelor’s degree should not assume Patsy Mink’s progressive-degree rule permits it. A woman supporting a parent rather than a child may still have a relevant Soroptimist lead. These examples illustrate eligibility differences, not selection outcomes.
Plan the expense the award will actually address
Make a monthly budget with tuition, books, transportation and child care listed separately. Ask the provider which uses are permitted and when money arrives. Do not convert a possible multi-level award into guaranteed tuition coverage. An award arriving later may not pay an immediate child-care bill.
Next step
Choose the program whose written household and education rules fit you. Request the reference or gather the specific records, and confirm the actual application window. General scholarships remain worth screening, but should not be represented as parent-targeted awards.
