A scholarship’s history or name does not prove that it currently requires a particular racial or ethnic background. Check the provider’s current application rules. This shortlist includes a heritage-specific program and broader programs relevant to students who search this category; it does not label every award as minority-only. Facts were checked October 13, 2026.

HSF Scholar Program eligibility and conditional scholarship-funding information

The JRF amount is supported by its program overview. The table is a shortlist, not a claim that these are all available awards.

HSF: distinguish the recognition from a scholarship payment

HSF says students of all races who identify as Hispanic heritage may apply. Its displayed 2026 rules require a minimum 3.0 GPA for high-school students or 2.5 for college/graduate students, eligible U.S. status, a full-time qualifying four-year or graduate program and the specified FAFSA. Scholarship amounts depend on relative need and available funds. HSF official criteria.

Because the displayed application is closed, the immediate task is learning the requirements and monitoring the provider—not submitting to a nonexistent verified 2027 window. Do not put an HSF cash award into a budget solely because you receive Scholar recognition.

APIA: do not repeat older ethnicity assumptions

The current program page explicitly welcomes all backgrounds and prioritizes substantial financial need. It covers qualifying associate’s and bachelor’s students at U.S.-accredited institutions and excludes applicants who already hold a bachelor’s or higher degree. Check the precise list of eligible citizenship/residency categories, including the named Pacific jurisdictions. APIA current program.

Its support FAQ still contains 2026–27 references. Use the current program page for the announced 2027–28 dates and confirm any older FAQ condition before treating it as a new-cycle requirement. APIA FAQ.

JRF: prepare all required materials, not just an essay

The current application requires a transcript, one adult recommendation, ACT or SAT information, activities, household information, a CSS Profile and three brief essays. Its published rules include a ceiling on college credits already earned. JRF application.

A useful next step is to request the recommendation and verify the CSS Profile requirement early. The current checklist, not an old flyer that said “minority senior,” is the basis for this article’s eligibility description. Applicants with a gap year or unusual college-credit history should consult the current FAQ directly. JRF FAQ.

Gates: resolve the deadline, not the badge

The official page displays “Open” while also listing September 15, 2026 as the initial deadline. That date is past as of October 13, 2026. This article therefore does not invite new initial applications or invent an extension. Existing applicants should follow their portal instructions; prospective applicants should ask the provider before relying on the inconsistent status label. Gates timeline and criteria.

Choose by fit and next action

A hypothetical current undergraduate with substantial need may investigate APIA’s upcoming cycle. A qualifying high-school senior can read JRF’s live checklist now. A student considering HSF should not confuse a closed displayed cycle with a future opening. Keep background information voluntary in your own research worksheet; share only what an application actually requests and what you are comfortable supplying.
