A verified grant to investigate
The Jeannette Rankin National Scholar Grant provides non-tuition support of up to $3,000 annually for eligible women age 35 or older with financial need pursuing specified first-degree or vocational routes at accredited nonprofit U.S. institutions. Its 2026–27 cycle opened October 5, 2026 and closes February 12, 2027.
The provider FAQ directs Georgia and Montana residents to a different grant route and says full-time enrollment is not required. Check the full survey and conditions; age alone does not establish eligibility. This is a grant, not a tuition scholarship.
Describe your education history accurately
List prior qualifications, the programme you intend to enter, the credential you hope to earn, and whether admission is confirmed. Do not assume a programme for a first degree accepts a second qualification.
If credit transfer or course placement is unresolved, ask the institution before building a completion plan. Keep academic planning separate from the provider’s funding criteria.
Map costs beyond tuition
Make a budget for the actual study plan, including relevant books, transport, childcare, equipment, and other expenses. Ask which uses the award permits and when funds are paid.
A hypothetical returning student should not assume a non-tuition grant can be assigned to any bill without reading its terms. Keep uncertain support outside the confirmed total.
Prepare a realistic statement
Explain your goal, practical steps, and the experience that supports the plan. Do not apologise for time away or invent a dramatic narrative. Work and caring responsibilities can be described factually when relevant to the prompt.
Give recommenders the current criteria and submission process. Verify when requests are sent and whether their deadline differs from your own preparation target.
Plan the first term
Check your actual course load, access to required materials, and payment dates. If work or family plans may change enrollment, ask how that affects funding before accepting.
Your next step
Write your exact qualification goal, screen the official grant criteria, and build a dated expense plan. Investigate additional providers whose current rules match your actual route.
