This guide concerns U.S. osteopathic medical education leading to a DO. Do not assume its scholarships apply to every course using the word osteopathy.
Start with your OMS year, accredited institution, financial need, and intended expense. A dean-nominated education scholarship, a mission-focused award, and an international outreach travel grant have different applications.

Nomination can come before the student application
Welch requires a dean/designee nomination, a financial-aid assessment signed by the school, statement, CV and proof of AOA membership. It can support one recipient per eligible school or branch campus per year. Prior Golden Ticket finalists are excluded under the published rules. Welch requirements.
Contact your school’s office early. Ask its internal selection date and whether it needs information beyond the foundation’s checklist. The national deadline is not necessarily your first deadline.
Describe your need accurately and separate confirmed costs from estimates. Do not invent a hardship story or imply an award has been approved before school nomination and foundation review.
Mission-focused awards require genuine fit
The Grove scholarship recognizes commitment to understanding and addressing LGBTQ+ healthcare needs. Its published cycle requires qualifying COCA enrollment, academic standing, recommendations including an osteopathic physician, a statement and AOA membership. Grove program.
Choose a real example of learning, service, or leadership relevant to the purpose. Explain your role without claiming independent clinical authority or an unmeasured patient outcome. Do not infer identity requirements that the program does not state.
A hypothetical applicant could describe a supervised educational initiative and what feedback changed. Protect participants’ privacy and share only material you are authorized to use.
Match travel funding to the actual trip
AOF distinguishes school-approved Rossnick trips from DOCARE-approved trips. Both require specified standing, approval and onsite DO supervision; supporting documentation and post-trip reporting apply. The listed trips extend through March 31, 2027. Travel grant rules.
Do not arrange travel assuming an application guarantees reimbursement. Verify eligibility, timing, payment and remaining costs with the sponsor and school before making commitments.
Read the current page—not a past winner story
AOF’s current directory includes open and closed scholarships, research awards, and other grants. A past recipient announcement proves a program awarded funding previously, not that applications remain open. AOF directory.
For every lead, record amount offered, payment recipient, eligible cost, funded period, renewal and effect on other aid. Ask your school how a particular award affects your individual package.
Next step
Confirm your OMS stage and expense, ask the school about nomination, and read the complete current application. Keep pending awards separate from confirmed funds.
