Your nursing stage determines which awards are worth your time. An RN returning for a bachelor’s degree is not the same applicant as a student entering a first nursing program or a doctoral student preparing for academic leadership. The shortlist below separates those routes and flags the substantial service condition attached to Nurse Corps.

Nurse Corps is funding plus an obligation
HRSA requires eligible citizenship/status, acceptance or enrollment in an accredited U.S. nursing degree program, and compliance with listed debt and service-commitment conditions. It gives preference to applicants with greater financial need. The award requires work after graduation at an eligible facility with a critical nursing shortage. Read the current application and program guidance before accepting any award. HRSA instructions.
This is not an unrestricted gift for working wherever you choose. Ask HRSA about eligible sites and your contractual requirements. The current application is closed; joining official notifications is a concrete next step for a future cycle, not a claim that an application is available now.
Scrubin: the school agreement is a real requirement
A nursing major alone does not establish eligibility. The official page specifies an AACN member school with a formal Scrubin agreement and supplies a school list. Applicants must be currently enrolled and submit the online information and short essay. Scrubin rules.
Check your institution against the provider’s list before writing. The provider describes three funding cycles; the September cycle has a nurse-faculty interest focus. Do not assume that special focus applies identically to December’s cycle or invent a GPA minimum that the page does not state.
Trautman: leadership development is part of the award
Eligible students must be enrolled and in good standing in a master’s or doctoral program at an AACN member school affiliated with NursingCAS and belong to GNSA. The package provides $3,500 for educational expenses and up to $1,500 for conference travel. A required leadership component is attached to the funding. Trautman award details.
Prepare the required résumé/CV, concise essay, goals and two recommendations, including one from the dean or director. Ask whether you can complete the program commitment before applying; this is not simply a $5,000 tuition payment.
ONF: bachelor’s funding for nurses already licensed
ONF requires RN status and a commitment to oncology. Applicants must be enrolled in, accepted to or have applied to a qualifying accredited bachelor of nursing program for 2027–28. The $3,000 award is not repeatable for the same individual. The application also has a $5 nonrefundable processing fee and requires the specified recommendation. ONF bachelor’s rules.
An unlicensed first-year nursing student should not infer eligibility from “bachelor’s scholarship.” A working RN should check the funded expenses and recommendation format before submission.
Make your application evidence specific
A hypothetical graduate applicant aiming to teach can organize evidence around academic leadership rather than submit a generic “helping people” essay. A hypothetical RN pursuing a bachelor’s can describe actual oncology responsibilities without disclosing patient identities. Keep every example truthful and matched to the provider’s prompt.
Your first action is to identify your route—pre-licensure, licensed bachelor’s completion or graduate study—then remove programs whose stage, institution affiliation or service terms do not fit.
