In short

An international-studies major, an international applicant and a student studying overseas are not the same category. Begin by deciding what expense you need funded and which applicant stage applies to you.

IIE’s readable Boren overview describes U.S. undergraduate scholarships for study abroad and separate graduate fellowships. It does not establish the current deadline or complete terms for your proposed program. Official overview

The last row is a search route, not a verified award. This guide does not label any program open.

Remove the wrong applicant stage

Do not populate an undergraduate shortlist with distinguished chairs or faculty research positions merely because their titles mention international affairs. Several leads in the planning material concern distinguished scholars; they require separate eligibility review before inclusion.

Ask whether the award supports your stage, purpose and proposed period—not simply whether its subject sounds relevant.

Build a proposed-program record

List the host program, location, language, academic credit, dates and costs. Then ask your institution whether the study is approved and how outside funding would interact with existing aid.

For a hypothetical example, a student funding a language term abroad needs a different record from a graduate student proposing research. The same major name does not make their applications interchangeable.

Explain the academic connection

Describe the actual questions and skills the proposed study supports. Do not invent a career commitment or claim a required language proficiency you do not have. Read any service conditions before deciding the program fits.

Next action

Choose one funding purpose, identify the correct applicant level and request the complete current provider instructions. Keep degree scholarships and travel support in separate budget lines.
