In short

A history scholarship may require a specific field, a particular stage of study or membership in a professional society. Start with those constraints before investing time in an application.

The programs below are verified on official pages checked October 13, 2026. A current deadline was confirmed for Graydon Tunstall; the current DAR application cycle still needs verification. Do not interpret the DAR listings as “open now.”

Tunstall: confirm membership and the correct application packet

The current official page requires a completed application and supporting materials by the deadline, with verifiable membership. It allows electronic PDF submission through the stated address. The live provider page now gives March 1, 2027; older indexed pages showing March 2, 2026 do not describe the current deadline.

Before submitting, ask your faculty adviser to confirm that your specialization and academic stage fit. Download the current application from the page, then make a checklist from that packet—not a third-party directory.

Phi Alpha Theta also posts restrictions on AI-created or AI-assisted submissions for its award consideration. Read the actual policy and prepare your own original application work; this guide is not a submission text you should copy into a scholarly application.

DAR: choose a program based on your proposed coursework

The DAR history list describes Pittenger’s annual transcript review and 3.25 GPA renewal requirement. A broad history major does not itself prove that your course plan satisfies the American-history/government concentration.

For Findley, connect your demonstrated interest to actual study plans. For Centennial, verify that your graduate program is historic preservation rather than assuming any graduate history degree fits. The overview does not supply a verified current cutoff here; follow the official application route and confirm the award year before preparing a deadline calendar.

Prepare evidence that is useful to a reviewer

Build an academic snapshot with your current degree stage, expected graduation, specialization and the exact courses relevant to the award. Keep completed courses separate from planned ones.

An original hypothetical example: Nia is finishing high school and plans a general history degree. Before selecting Pittenger, Nia asks the college adviser whether the curriculum can include the required American history and government credits. Nia also checks Findley because its published academic fit is different. Neither application is counted as confirmed funding.

For research or interest statements, start from an actual question you studied: the source you used, what it could and could not establish, and the next question it raised. This is a preparation exercise, not a fabricated applicant success story. Do not invent archival access, publication credits or awards to make a narrative sound stronger.

Ask your department about additional funding

Use a specific inquiry: “I am a year history student focusing on field. Which department scholarships accept students at my stage, what is the current application, and is funding limited to tuition or can it cover research expenses?”

A tuition scholarship, travel award and research grant can solve different problems. Read the expense restrictions before using a research award in your living-cost budget. No additional departmental award is claimed to exist at every school.

FAQ

Do I need to major in history? The provider’s wording controls; some requirements specify concentrated study or a particular graduate field.

Is a four-year scholarship guaranteed for all four years? No. Pittenger has renewal conditions, while other listed awards are one-time.

Should I use last year’s application? Use the current provider packet. An old cutoff can cause both a missed deadline and the wrong supporting documents.
