Three verified funding routes
Status checked October 13, 2026. A closed award is included for future planning, clearly separated from actionable current applications.

| Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships | Qualifying New Americans, age 30 or younger at deadline, with eligible graduate enrollment | Stipend and tuition support; see financial support rules | 2027 application due October 29, 2026, 2 p.m. ET |

Do not describe these as easy applications or guarantee selection. Review full eligibility before beginning an essay.
Research degree: check the current NSF rules first

Use the actual FY2027 solicitation rather than an older eligibility summary. Its application-stage and approved-field rules govern this competition. Schedule references separately from your own submission; the reference deadline comes first. Current NSF solicitation
Suggested first step: open the eligibility section beside your transcript and intended research description. Highlight the rule establishing your eligible stage. If you cannot identify that rule, contact the program before investing in the full proposal.
New American funding: review the provider’s definition

Source: Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships
For Soros, “New American” is an eligibility category with detailed requirements—not simply any international student. Check the official definition, age rule, enrollment timing, and graduate-progress restrictions together. The application and recommendations share the October 29, 2026, 2 p.m. ET deadline. Eligibility and application process
Build an evidence list that includes the required status documentation, degree plans, and recommenders. Do not make public disclosures of sensitive immigration documents in a scholarship essay unless the application specifically requires the information.
Stanford funding: separate the missed deadline from future planning
Knight-Hennessy and Stanford degree admission are separate applications. On October 13, 2026, the KHS deadline for the 2027 cohort has passed; a later department deadline does not reopen it. The provider says the 2028 KHS application will open in June 2027. KHS deadlines and admission update
For this route, make a monitoring record for the next cycle instead of displaying an Apply Now button. Confirm degree eligibility and any bachelor’s-degree timing limit before planning a future application. KHS eligibility
Compare outside funding with the department’s offer
Ask each graduate program to explain how an external fellowship would interact with departmental support. Questions worth sending before accepting admission:
- Does the offer include tuition, required fees, health insurance, and summer support?
- Is a stipend guaranteed or dependent on an assistantship appointment?
- How many years are included, and what conditions govern continuation?
- Would external funding supplement or replace any existing support?
Illustrative example: an outside award of $10,000 does not necessarily increase your total package by $10,000. Request a revised written package before assuming the funds stack. This example is a planning caution, not a claim about any listed provider’s award adjustment.
Build two application queues
Use “apply this cycle” only for programs whose current eligibility and deadlines you meet. Use “monitor next cycle” for closed programs. Keep a third list for institution-specific funding that needs an admission decision. This prevents future possibilities from being counted as available cash.
