In short

Start by identifying your actual situation: Filipino American student, Philippine citizen applying internationally, or another combination. A heritage label does not establish citizenship, residency or school-location eligibility.

The Asian Pacific Fund’s readable scholarship page identifies the Banatao Family Filipino American Education Fund. It describes a 2026–27 full-time rising-freshman route, a 3.0 minimum and specified science, mathematics, computing and engineering fields; it excludes listed health-care pathways. That is only part of the eligibility review. Provider page

Do not treat the academic-year reference as proof that applications remain open in October 2026.

Ask the status question directly

Send the provider your school stage, study destination and citizenship/residency description using only information needed to clarify eligibility. Ask which current rule applies. Do not upload identity documents to an unverified directory.

A hypothetical Philippine citizen applying from Manila and a Filipino American senior attending a U.S. school should not automatically share the same shortlist.

Check the field, not just “STEM”

Use the provider’s actual eligible-major list. A broad STEM label can conceal exclusions. If your intended field is borderline, ask before completing an essay or requesting a recommendation.

Keep the written answer with the application record rather than relying on a third-party category tag.

Build a complete budget

Separate tuition, living expenses and international travel or documentation costs relevant to your plan. Count only confirmed awards; a program lead does not establish that your financing gap is covered.

Do not assume a heritage scholarship is portable to any college or usable for every expense.

Next action

Confirm your applicant category, request the full Banatao instructions and ask your intended institution for awards accepting that category. Broaden the search only after the essential status rules are clear.
