In short

Dental-school scholarships should match your actual degree and stage. A predoctoral DDS/DMD award is not automatically available to a dental-hygiene or dental-assisting student, and an award for a dental educator may not fit every career plan.

Start with program accreditation, completed study and intended use. The selected opportunities below are genuine but their latest application cycles are closed; save them as future research leads rather than applications you can submit today.

ADA Foundation Dental Student ScholarshipEligible students at CODA-accredited North Carolina predoctoral programs in the pilotUp to two $5,000 awards; 2026 closedDo not assume planned national expansion is confirmed eligibility

A planned expansion is not a current national award

ADA Foundation says it anticipates nationwide expansion in 2027. Its actual 2026 pilot requires North Carolina enrollment, good academic standing and financial need. The word anticipates does not establish the future geographic rules or opening date. ADA pilot terms.

If you study elsewhere, wait for a current application explicitly including your program. Do not label the pilot as available to all U.S. dental students.

Academic-career funding needs genuine teaching interest

ADEA/Crest Oral-B supports future dental educators. Its current page says the cycle is closed and awards will be announced at the March 2027 annual meeting. A future award ceremony does not mean applications remain open until that date. ADEA program.

Choose a real educational, mentoring or academic example that answers the purpose. A hypothetical student could describe a supervised peer-learning activity and how feedback changed it. Do not invent teaching credentials or claim a whole course’s outcomes as your personal impact.

If your goals are different, select funding that fits rather than rewriting your career intention to qualify.

Dentistry, hygiene and assisting are different categories

ADEA’s student list separates predoctoral dentistry from hygiene and allied-dental awards. Its MouthWatch predoctoral innovation scholarship is also distinct from the hygiene scholarship of a similar name. Read the full degree requirement rather than selecting an award by brand alone. ADEA categories.

Write your exact degree, institution, completed year and expected graduation on a shortlist record. Ask the sponsor about an unusual transfer or advanced-standing path instead of assuming the ordinary year label applies.

Compare the complete cost and award terms

A dental school’s cost of attendance can include direct tuition/fees and indirect living expenses. An award may cover only specified items. Harvard’s DMD cost page explicitly distinguishes those categories; use your own school’s actual budget. Cost-category example.

Record amount offered, payment recipient, funded term, renewal and obligations. A maximum or program-wide total is not guaranteed personal support. Keep pending applications separate from confirmed money and ask the aid office about the effect on your package.

If considering service-linked funding, read that program’s current agreement separately. Do not confuse a scholarship with loan repayment or assume any future employer satisfies a service requirement.

Prepare an accurate application

Protect patient, employer and research-participant information. Explain your role and learning without identifying a case or claiming independent clinical responsibilities from supervised training.

Ask recommenders early and provide the exact criteria. Keep the current sponsor page and date checked with every application.
