Civil-engineering funding can recognize the broad degree or focus on structural design, concrete, transportation, or deep foundations. Start with your actual academic stage and interest rather than assuming every construction-related award fits.
The selected providers below use different membership, degree, geography and application rules. A shared industry does not make their requirements interchangeable.
Compare selected civil-engineering funding
Checked October 14, 2026. Full individual criteria apply.
| Program | Who should investigate | Amount/status | First action |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASCE undergraduate scholarships | Current ASCE Student Members with at least one semester/quarter remaining next academic year | Individual amount/deadline varies; current page lists 2026–27 recipients | Open the actual scholarship’s next-cycle criteria |
| ACI Foundation scholarships/fellowships | Eligible full-time concrete-related undergraduate/graduate students | Current applications open through November 1, 2026, 11:59 p.m. EDT; individual amounts vary | Check geography and award category carefully |
| DFI Educational Trust At-Large Scholarships | Eligible full-time students at accredited U.S. institutions in qualifying programs | $1,000–$5,000 in published 2026 cycle; payment scheduled August 2026 | Treat as a future research lead, not a current open application |
Broad civil study and a specialty award are different
ASCE lists specific structural, transportation and general civil scholarships. Its undergraduate scholarships are separate from graduate fellowships; incoming high-school graduates do not meet the current student-member application rule. ASCE requirements.
Write down your degree, current enrollment and remaining academic terms. Then read the named award rather than assuming membership establishes every condition.
For a specialty statement, connect an actual question or experience to that field. A hypothetical structural applicant could discuss a design tradeoff from coursework without claiming professional responsibility for a built structure.
Concrete-related funding has award-specific geography
ACI requires full-time study in a concrete-related degree during the award cycle. Fellowship applicants need qualifying U.S./Canadian institutional enrollment, while certain Student Excellence Awards target specified Middle Eastern countries. Do not combine these categories into a universal global award. ACI eligibility.
Check which academic year is funded and what documents belong to your category. If a public PDF describes an older cycle, use the current portal and guide rather than copying old dates.
Describe your own role in a concrete project accurately: question, method, observations and limits. Do not invent test results or present a team design as wholly your work.
One application can cover multiple DFI funds
DFI says one At-Large application places an eligible applicant in consideration for all its At-Large scholarships; applicants cannot select only one. Its published awards may cover tuition, fees, books or educational living expenses, with payment after required enrollment documentation. DFI rules.
Those details describe the listed 2026 cycle. Ask about the next actual application rather than treating a scheduled August payment as an open October opportunity.
Conference support is not tuition
ASCE’s SEI scholarships for ASCE2027 cover specified registration and reimbursable travel/lodging, with participation requirements and a November 20, 2026 application date. They do not reimburse every cost and should not be counted as a general tuition award. SEI conference support.
If applying, budget the remaining costs and ask about reimbursement timing. Do not make travel commitments assuming selection is guaranteed.
Build the funding record
For each actual offer, record amount, eligible expense, payment recipient, funded term, renewal and obligations. Protect proprietary designs, private datasets and unpublished work in applications. Ask your supervisor before sharing restricted material.
Next step
Choose broad civil or specialty funding, verify your stage and current cycle, and ask your department about separate institutional awards and nominations.
