Scholarship names do not tell you every eligibility condition. A program can require a specific heritage, favor a community without restricting heritage, or support an Asian-community mission while accepting applicants from all backgrounds. Degree stage, citizenship, geography, and financial need can be just as important.

APIA Scholars: follow the current wording, not an older directory
The current APIA page requires high financial need, undergraduate degree enrollment at a U.S.-accredited institution, and the stated U.S. or Pacific-island citizenship/national/permanent-resident categories. Students who already earned a bachelor’s degree or higher are excluded.
Prepare for the November opening rather than saying applications are open today. Its FAQ discusses full- and part-time undergraduate eligibility, but still labels the earlier 2026–27 cycle. Recheck the new form for 2027–28 conditions before submitting.
Importantly, the current public page welcomes applicants from all backgrounds; do not impose an Asian-heritage requirement copied from old materials. The organization’s name alone does not override its published rules.
KASF: apply by your school’s region
KASF’s application guidance lists Korean heritage, full-time enrollment, and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. It directs students to the region where their school will be located, not simply their home address. Applications sent to the wrong region are disqualified.
The foundation says students may apply to multiple scholarship types but receive only one type. Ask the appropriate regional chapter about the next dated competition and its award amount. Do not transfer a deadline or funding range from another region to your own.
An illustrative case: a student living in California but attending school in a different KASF region should use the school location specified by KASF, even if a parent recommends the nearest hometown chapter.
Asian Pacific Fund: heritage requirements and preferences are different
The Banatao award includes a 3.0 GPA and a defined engineering, mathematics, computing, environmental, or physical-science focus. A nursing student should not treat the STEM label as enough to overcome the stated health-career exclusion.
The same official page lists the Shui Kuen and Allen Chin Scholarship at $1,000–$2,000. It accepts any heritage and has no citizenship-status requirement, but includes restaurant-employment, advocacy, need, enrollment, and GPA conditions. It is a broader community-related option, not an Asian-heritage-only award.
Hsiao is graduate funding, not a scholarship for a first-year undergraduate. This separation prevents students from spending time on an application whose academic stage cannot fit.
Prepare a respectful, specific application
Suggested evidence folder:
- Your actual school and enrollment plans.
- Transcript and required academic information.
- Financial documentation requested by the provider.
- A short activity or work record focused on responsibilities and results.
- Any heritage or residency information the program explicitly requests.
Do not disclose sensitive immigration or family information to an unofficial scholarship directory. Use the provider’s secure application and ask how documentation is handled. You can discuss community engagement without presenting your identity as a stereotype or writing a hardship story you do not want to share.
Use a three-filter shortlist
For each award, mark required, preferred, or not stated beside heritage, citizenship, and location. Then check degree stage. A required heritage condition and a heritage preference are not interchangeable, and an organization-wide mission does not establish the criteria of every fund it administers.
Your next action is to select the program that matches these conditions, record its verified next date, and request any unresolved regional or cycle instructions. Continue applying for ordinary major, school, and local scholarships too; an identity-based shortlist should not become your only funding route.
